Common Internship Interview Questions in Sri Lanka and How to Answer Them

This is almost always the first question. Prepare a 2-minute summary that covers your academic background, key skills, and what you're looking for in an internship. For example: 'I'm a final-year Computer Science student at the University of Moratuwa with a focus on software development. I've completed projects in web development using React and Node.js, and I'm passionate about building user-friendly applications. I'm now looking for an internship where I can apply my skills and learn from experienced developers.'

Employers want to know you're genuinely interested in their company, not just applying randomly. Research the company's work, mention specific aspects that appeal to you, and connect it to your career goals. For example: 'I'm particularly drawn to your company's work in fintech because I'm interested in how technology can improve financial inclusion in Sri Lanka. Your recent mobile banking app impressed me, and I'd love to contribute to similar projects while learning from your team.'

For strengths, choose 2-3 relevant to the role and provide brief examples. For weaknesses, be honest but strategic — mention a real area for improvement and what you're doing to address it. Show ambition but be realistic. Employers want to see that you have career goals and that the internship aligns with them. This internship is an important step toward building the technical and professional skills I need to achieve that.'
